OUR LOCATION
The Yreka Western Railroad is located in Yreka, (Siskiyou County) California along the I-5 corridor and approximately 23 miles south of the Oregon/California border. Yreka has three exit ramps from I-5. To get to Yreka Western Railroad, take the 'Central Yreka' off ramp, turn east from the freeway, (the station is visible from the northbound I-5 direction) and turn right onto Foothill Drive (the first street that parallels I-5). The depot is located on the left approximately 200 feet from there.
Parking is available in front of the depot and in the rear. Large motor coaches and vehicles with trailers should park in the rear of the depot. There are wheelchair access parking spaces at the Northern end of the depot.
Yreka Western Railroad is home to Siskiyou Model Railroad Club. In the mid 1970's, a group of men decided it would be beneficial to form a club to promote and enjoy their hobby. Each of these men had been independently enjoying, building, and operating model railroads for a number of years. In 1986, as "The Blue Goose" Train was beginning its season, the club was invited by the late Larry Bacon, Superintendent of the Yreka Western Railroad, to permanently setup and operate their model railroad modules in the old freight house of the Yreka Western Railroad Depot. Larry asked the club to entertain passengers with a miniature empire of their own design. Siskiyou Model Railroad Club accepted Larry's invitation and has been operating on that basis for twenty years. This year we are pleased to announce that Siskiyou Model Railroad will be displaying a new layout for all to enjoy!
If you love trains and would like to become a club member, the group meets every Thursday night, 7 PM, at the Yreka Western Railroad depot. For questions please contact, Glenn Joesten at (530) 340-2537 or Tom Brass at (530) 842-4921.
